My name is Damien Venter and I am a national motocross racer. I am in grade 3 and live in Pretoria. I have a positive attitude about life, I love the outdoors and give 100% with everything I do. I started riding dirt bikes for fun in February 2017 at the age of 8. Being very sportive and competitive by nature, I instantly developed a huge passion for the sport, after which I decided to train for motocross racing. Together with my father, I started to train insanely hard towards a new dream of becoming a force to reckon with in the motocross field. 2018 was my first official racing year. I have been in top form and performing extremely well nationally. I achieved an overall 4th position nationally in the 50cc Pro class this year, even though I missed the final round with an injury that prevented me from taking part. I also achieved overall podiums with other championships, all within my very first year of racing. I had my very first national heat win in September, a day in which one of my first dreams materialised! I am currently also training for the 65cc class for 2019. My family and I embraced my talent and entered the sport wholeheartedly, not exactly realising how much the costs would add up to during the year. My mom and dad works extremely hard and for long hours to be able to provide the best they can for us, but as we approach the end of 2018, I realise that the time for new annual licences, race entry fees, travelling etc. is almost upon us yet again, and I know that it's been quite a battle this past year to be able to keep up with the expenses. We have searched for sponsorships all year and were very blessed to be backed by a tyre manufacturer for discounted tyre prices, as well as a goggle manufacturer that provided my goggles for the year, but my parents recently had to apply for a loan to provide me with my motorbike for 2019, as business have not been too good for them and they simply can't quite keep up with the financial responsibilities of the sport as well. I am sure that they will sell their last piece of clothing to see me living the supreme life of motocross. My sister also started racing this year (at age 7) and is starting to perform better than expected as well, so this naturally makes things even tighter! If I look back and see where I came from less than 2 years ago, and I look forward to the opportunities in front of me, I cannot imagine having to hold back or halt my dream. I know that there are people who care out there and people that can help me reach my dream of becoming the national champion and taking part in the MXGP in the near future, this is my dream and I WILL chase it!WHAT'S THE MONEY RAISED FOR?
